The introduction and implementation of new standards, adapting to changing circumstances and evaluating the status quo – all these activities are based on the IBIT philosophy not to be satisfied with the common practice, but to permanently engage in search of new and better solutions in event safety management.
Key topics are:
- Quality Management in the field of event safety
- Analyse and drive developments in matching and lifting educational demands and standards
- The improvement of inter-organizational collaboration and crowd management techniques
Furthermore, IBIT is involved in various special research projects concerned with hazards at open-air events due to extreme weather and the connection of audience safety and environmental protection.
IBIT also is and was part in the following three major flagship-projects financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
- BaSiGo (Bausteine für die Sicherheit von Großveranstaltungen) was a joint research project occupied with the identification of cornerstones of safety management for large scale events. Fundings for this project have run from 2012 to 2015. The project has aimed to fundamentally revise the German landscape for event safety management processes and legislation. www.basigo.de
- ORPHEUS (Optimierung der Rauchableitung und Personenführung in U-Bahnhöfen: Experimente und Simulationen) was launched in February 2015, which was funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) until January 2018. The consortium is coordinated by Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) and consists of 13 partners: Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung, IBIT GmbH, Imtech, Institut für Industrieaerodynamik, Ruhr-Universität Bochum and the associated partners Berliner Feuerwehr, Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe, Deutsche Bahn, Hekatron, Karstadt, NVIDIA, and Team HF. The objective is the optimization of smoke management and evacuation strategies in underground train stations. This covers technical as well as interorganizational aspects. www.orpheus-projekt.de
- ProVOD (Professionalization Of Stewards As An Autonomous Part Of The Private Security Industry) is a project that is funded by the research programme „Civil Security – New Economic Aspects“ (Neue ökonomische Aspekte) as a part of the framework programme „Research for Civil Security“ (Forschung für die zivile Sicherheit) by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The title of this joint project is „Professionalization Of Stewards As An Autonomous Part Of The Private Security Industry”. Large events (festivals, sporting events, concerts) are a part of modern society’s free time activities. Private security and stewards are essential for guaranteeing a safe event. Their work is a complex combination of interaction between visitors and coordination between other safety related personal (police, fire brigade, paramedics). Nevertheless, the branch is characterized by low wages, high turnover rates and a low reputation compared to other safety related personal. www.provod.uni-wuppertal.de
